The Municipality of Marousi in collaboration with the sports event organization company Misc Sport Media, announce the organization of the “RUN-MAROUSI SPYROS LOUIS 2024” road races, which will take place in Marousi on Sunday, March 3, 2024.
The races are held in memory of Spyros Louis, who was born in Greece, in 1873 and gained fame for winning the marathon at the 1896 Athens Olympics. Despite being a humble water-carrier, Louis became a national hero by triumphing in the marathon, a symbolically significant event. His victory symbolized the spirit of resilience and sportsmanship. After the Olympics, Louis returned to a simple life in Marousi, working as a farmer. He passed away in 1940, leaving behind a legacy of Greek pride and Olympic spirit. Louis’ story continues to inspire athletes worldwide, showcasing the power of determination and perseverance.

The routes are measured and certified by an official World Athletics measurer.
For the 5,000m & 10,000m races, there will be electronic timing, and the results will be issued electronically.
