On September 17th, we are excited to participate in the historic 24th Kolokotronis Road Race, taking place in Tripoli. This annual event is not only a celebration of athleticism but also a tribute to the remarkable General Theodoros Kolokotronis, a prominent figure in Greek history. Kolokotronis achieved his greatest success at the 1822 Battle of Dervenakia, where he displayed his military prowess by defeating the Ottoman forces under the command of Mahmud Dramali Pasha.
Theodoros Kolokotronis was a distinguished Greek general and the pre-eminent leader of the Greek War of Independence (1821–1829) against the Ottoman Empire. His legacy as a heroic and strategic leader continues to inspire generations.
The race will commence at Areos Square, right in front of the Kolokotronis statue, and it will finish at the same iconic location. The start time for this exciting event is set for 09:30 a.m.
Participation in the 10 km race is open to individuals born up to and including the year 2007.
In addition to the 10 km race, there will also be a 1000 m road race, providing an opportunity for elementary school students (ages 6-12) and middle school students (ages 13-15) to engage in the festivities. The 1000 m race will commence from Areos Square and conclude at the same historic spot.
